So, as I indicated, I didn’t have the expected Internet access during my trip to Duke. But I wrote entries anyway, and now I’m posting them. Below is my first entry, written 9 February 2006 at 9:27 pm, Eastern time.
The trip has been pretty uneventful so far. As I was crossing Euclid Avenue on the way to the Rapid station, I looked up to see the Rapid pulling out of the station. Oh well. Once I got on the train, I spent some time people-watching a trio conducting quite an animated conversation in sign language. The two women seemed to be quite agitated, whereas the man spent most of the time listening or making a few remarks that appeared almost incredulous. I wished that Greg was there so that I would have had some idea of what they were talking about.
In an interesting coincidence, the young lady sitting behind me on the plane was also headed to Duke for a visit. She’s also been invited to Cornell. We had some fun talking while we took a taxi to the hotel together. So far, I have to admit some disappointment in the Hilton. That complimentary high-speed Internet access I was supposed to have? Not working. So I’m typing this into WordPad for a later posting. In the meantime, Kinsey is playing on the television in the background and I think it’s about time to take a shower. I have to be up bright and early tomorrow morning and it wouldn’t do to be yawning all day.
