Holidays and Rainy Days

Have collected some nice photos of holiday decorations around the house–my family is crazy when it comes to Christmas decorations–and some creepy shots I took on our rainy, foggy trip up into the North Carolina Blue Ridge Mountains a couple of days ago.

Winter Rains
A mountain overlook on the Blue Ridge parkway. Anything further than 10 feet away was wreathed in thick fog, which cast a ghostliness over all we saw.

A new perspective on the road and the rain.

Small Joys

Have been excited to find that, despite having undoubtedly gained back a couple pounds thanks to the holidays, I am still a good pants size smaller than before. Highlight of the day: discovering that I can wear my younger sister’s pants. Not only that. I look good in my sister’s pants. Win!

An Observation

Christmas is better enjoyed without attacks on one’s nose by suicidal platters stored on high shelves. The good news is that I kept the platter from hitting the floor and breaking. On the other hand, the bridge of my nose has definitely felt better. Must remember to a) not touch my nose and b) not make any facial expression involving wrinkling my nose. Shall we see if I’m bruised and swollen tomorrow?

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas from NC

Merry Christmas, everyone! I hope that each and every one of you has a chance to enjoy today with friends, family, or loved ones.

And, Amy? Happy Amymas! :)

Project 22 - 12 - 18 December

This bunch of photos takes me up through the day before I drove to NC (i.e. yesterday). Continue reading ‘Project 22 - 12 - 18 December’

Off The Road

Just a brief line to say that I made it to NC safely, and, in the shortest time yet. I left my apartment at 7:15 a.m. and drove into my parents’ drive at 5:45 p.m. Neil Gaiman remains an excellent driving companion.

Foiling The Hotlinkers

Just (finally) put in some hotlink protection. My number of visitors has exploded in the past couple of months, but it’s hard to tell how much of that traffic was really just people downloading images and mp3s directly from a search engine page. I don’t mind the traffic, but I’d rather be paying for people actually coming to the site. So I’ve gone and added some code (many thanks to A List Apart) that will prevent people from displaying my images on sites other than this one, and, if they try to download my mp3s from a search engine page, they’ll get a helpful page pointing to where they can get it from my site instead.

Now to see how my stats change…

Project 22 - 7 - 11 December 2007

I can feel my photographic inspiration seeping even further away now that it’s dark before 5 p.m. This pretty much means that it’s impossible to take outdoor photos because I’m at work during the daylight. Not that there would be great pictures anyway with all the gray. Continue reading ‘Project 22 - 7 - 11 December 2007′

Gnomicons Update 9 Dec 2007

There’s a title I didn’t expect to be typing any time soon. However, it is true. My graphics site, Gnomicons, got a makeover and some new material. Check it out!
