Project 22 – 30 November – 6 December 2007

We’re moving unmistakably into winter here, which will become even more obvious when you see the subject material of this latest Project 22 update.

Last Day Of Classes

November 30th was the last day of classes for the semester, which is destined to lead to strange behavior, like Mitch, one of the first years, shaving his beard into this, um, style. In addition to his ridiculous pose, I want to emphasize the irony of the giant “Get Hammered” sign in the background.

It's That Time

In addition to running around and cleaning a lot on the 1st, I pulled out my prelit Christmas tree and, in a fashion that my father would approve, added extra lights. When I had people over the next day for a Christmas tree decorating party, several of them argued that there were enough lights on the tree that it didn’t need any ornaments.

Like A Real House!

Obviously, I disagreed. Those pictures over the stairway went up very recently, too, and they’ve made a tremendous improvement to the common area of the house, in my opinion. Our apartment genuinely looks and feels like a place where real people live rather than a place that has some beds that we fall into sometimes.

Doodles

On Monday, despite the fact that I really, really needed to work with finals coming up, I had a very strong urge to doodle and write. Shown here are some ideas pertaining to this story.

Snowy

Snow has reached us here in Ithaca, and I’ve found new reasons to be annoyed with the city’s odd/even parking rules. You’d think that, if they make me move my car every day in case of snow that they’d actually plow the empty side of the street when it does snow. But you’d be wrong. In the meantime, I’m wasting money on gas, hurting the environment, and hastening the death of my car’s battery.

Death By Optics

Wednesday was a pretty awful day for me, personally. I had to spend most of it studying for my optics final, and, by mid-afternoon, I was feeling physically sick from stress and anxiety about various things going on that day. So I got the idea to take several photos of optics-related materials, turning the camera as I did, and overlay them together. I’m pleased with the result; I think it nicely captures the way I was feeling that day.

Snow In The Cemetery

We’ve reached the time of year where my usual path home is too slippery and dangerous for my tastes, particularly as I’m usually walking home after dark and it’s not at all well-lit. So I’ve started taking a longer route home, often through the cemetery. It’s kind of strange to walk those paths at night as it snows. It can be quite pretty, though. Yesterday I walked home just before sunset and was able to get a shot or two of the graveyard in the fading light.
