About
The Site
Gnomicons was launched in August 2003. It currently contains 1483 icons, 74 wallpapers, 2 friends-only banners, 2 journal headers, and 10 Photoshop brush sets. Former layouts include Excel (Jan 2005 - Dec 2007), Filmed (Mar 2004 - Dec 2004), Fitzcarraldo (Jan 2004 - Mar 2004), and Colorblind (Aug 2003 - Dec 2003).
The Maker
The candidate for insanity that took the time to make all of this is now a graduate student at a highly regarded research university, where she studies aerospace engineering. These days she doesn't get to play in Photoshop very much, but she can still be found online. Feel free to drop her a line.

What do you use to make your graphics?
I've used Adobe Photoshop 7.0 and ImageReady 7.0, which comes bundled with it, as
well as Photoshop CS and ImageReady CS. There
are selected things that I've done in Photoshop Elements 2.0.
What do you use to animate icons?
Adobe ImageReady CS. There are other (cheaper) programs available, but that's what I use because it's what I have.
How can I make my own icons?
There are tons of ways. I suggest checking this LJ community. Many people have
written icon tutorials there. I have some of my own at my blog. Most of all, play around in the
program of your choice and have fun. That sums up how I learned just about everything I know.
Where do you get your fonts/images/brushes/textures?
I have an extensive page of links to my resources.
Do you take requests?
I used to on occasion, but since I have little free time now, I really can't anymore. Sorry!
Why haven't there been any updates?
There are a couple of reasons for this. The first is that, as a graduate student, I don't have the kind of free time to play in Photoshop that I had as an undergraduate, when I started this site. The second reason is that I don't blog on at my LiveJournal any longer, so personally don't have much of a reason to be making icons. I am still taking photographs that get turned into wallpapers sometimes, though, so I expect occasional updates to that section of the site. The remainder of the site I've left up because others still seem to be finding my work useful.
